Anyone have any suggestions for how I might obtain a crew list from Gulf
Oil Co tanker circa 1949? I have already checked with the retirees group
with no luck. Any ideas?

You need to find a copy of the Lloyd's Register for that year. It lists
every ship, their cargo, and crew. As it's an American ship, you can
also try the Merchant Marines.

Thank you very much. The Lloyds Register is a new resource for me. Is there
any way to access it on line? I have already checked with the Coast Guard
(Merchant Marines). They do not wish to release any information of the
person I am researching as they have no proof he is deceased. If he is alive
he needs to give his permission to release any information about him.I have
no idea where to even look to see if he is alive or dead. The Lloyds sounds
like a good place to look.

Re: Ship's crew list
Thank you. I have checked the SS Death Index (I have the latest complete
set), all the census data and am currently pursuing birth, marriage, death
and real estate records. Thnaks for the input. I have also sent an inquiry
to Lloyds Ships Registries, USA. Always something new to learn!
