Software Question

Legg inn av KB » 28 jan 2005 23:02:34

Does anyone know of a SOFTWARE BRAND that automatically generates a
"RELATIONSHIP TO FILE OWNER" tag for every record?

Example:
NAME: George Burns
RELATIONSHIP TO FILE OWNER: 1st Cousin, twice removed.
BIRTH DATE: yabba dabba doh

I'd like to have this tagged on each record but I'm not about to add
this tag to 2,000+ names manually.

Thanks.

Legacy will give you the relationship of anyone to anyone else in your

tree on the Family view screen. You can set the main person to yourself
as file owner and it works the rest out for you.

Legacy has a relationship for display. You set the relationship for any
selected individual.
Is that in the "Deluxe" version only?

http://www.legacyfamilytree.com

Legacy also has a report (alphabetical listing) of relationship of any
selected individual to all or selected (tagged) individuals.

FTM has a report that does this.

The Master Genealogist also has a feather for this.

Personal Ancestral File (PAF) does that for the view screen. You set the
person to calculate relationship to and in a few seconds it processes the
file. From then on in the view screens the highlighted persons relationship
to the target person is shown on the status bar (bottom of the window).
However this is inside of PAF only. Any GEDCOM generated does not carry the
information with it.

I think most programs that have the ability will do it a similar way. It
would be VERY annoying to have that relationship carry out in the GEDCOM
file as then anyone else that imports the data has this (to them) useless
piece of information hanging around. I downloaded one GEDCOM that a fellow
had gone through and done that in the notes. It was REALLY irratating that
every time I did a report that had notes it printed "This person is the
Great-Grandfather of Joe Smuck", someone that I had NO clue who they were.
It took be quite a while to find all the places that had that in and remove
it.

Like most programs, Reunion will identify the relationships for a
specified person and will create a list of all related individuals which
are sorted into alphabetical order by your choice of first, last or
married name.

Additionally, Reunion will find the relationship between any two
selected individuals if any, including multiple kinships and identify
the common ancestor.

Anyone if free to formulate *their* data as *they* please. If you choose

to download their data and use it that's always on an as-is term.
Otherwise take the information contained and re-enter is yourself as you
want it.

Ummm, you want to define "file owner"? (g)

Most programs let you set the "base"/"entry" person, and then most will
display or print a relationship list of that person to everyone else in
the data. I know of none that will put that informtion into the
individual file of each person, though.

Nor do I know of a program that can identify the "ower" of any given file.

Try GenViewer... one of the column options for the list you can create is
"relationship". You choose the "Selected Person" and the relationship of the
rest is shown in above mentioned column.

Yes.

I recently upgraded: it was worth the $30 bucks.
