Help with NYC Muni Archives

Legg inn av Pedro » 19 jan 2005 18:15:45

I contacted the NYC Municipal Archives to have a search made for a
death certificate. But last week they responded that they were refusing
to do the search because the name of the deceased was "too common."
They insisted on having the exact month, date and year of death to do
the search. I do not have that date of death, although I believe the
individual died in 1908.

I was hoping someone in this newsgroup could help me in locating the
needed information about the individual involved.

The deceased's name was John Ryan, who had a truly common name. He
allegedly was born in NYC in 1898, and then allegedly died in NYC in
1908. His parents were Peter Ryan and Margaret Fitzpatrick. The couple
lived at 33 128th Street, in Manhattan, NY on June 7, 1900, according to
the Federal Census that year. Curiously, John Ryan (their son) was not
present for that enumeration (at least he wasn't listed), but the census
record did state that Margaret had given birth to one child and that
that child was still living.

I have not found the couple yet in the 1905 NY State Census.

Margaret Fitzpatrick Ryan, the mother of John Ryan, also allegedly died
in 1908 in NYC.

Any help any of you could give me would be appreciated.

Pedro
