Genealogist for NYC Muni Archives

Legg inn av Pedro » 17 jan 2005 19:54:21

I have contacted the NYC Municipal Archives to have a search made for a
death certificate. But last week they responded that they were refusing
to do the search because the name of the deceased was "too common."
They insisted on having the exact month, date and year of death to do
the search. I do not have that date, although I believe the individual
died in 1908.

I do know the names of the deceased's father and mother and the
approximate (within 1 year) year the deceased was born. I even have the
address of the parents of the deceased in the 1900 Census.

Is there anyone who knows of a genealogist I could hire to do this
searching?

Thanks,

Pedro

Have you checked the NYC death index at
http://www.italiangen.org/NYCDeath.stm ? It has 1.4 million NYC deaths
1898 to 1919 for all 5 boroughs.

I did check the death index, and there were about 8 John Ryans that died
in 1908. Thanks for suggesting the idea though.

Thanks, Mike. I've started a new thread with the information I have. I
appreciate the suggestion.

Dear Pedro,

Have you asked for general help at this news group yet? May SKS are here
who may be able to help define a better death or birth date of the person in
question. Supply as much information as is known, if you have not.
