A new service has been launched offering a simplified method for
all to place their family history research on the internet as an
interactive website. People at every skill level can now
collaborate, at your invitation, in the genealogy on your website.
This website is:
http://www.sharemyfamilytree.com/

Some highlights of the service are:

1] Collaboration - the site provides:
· Discussion boards for every account-holder or group
· Real-time updates which eliminate duplication of effort
· A shared address book of contacts
· A shared calendar

2] Pictures and documents can be uploaded:
· Including portraits, wills, marriage certificates, and other
documentation.
· Each picture and document can be linked to individuals or families
· Each account will hold approx 1000 pictures.
[Depending on the size of your picture files]

3] Daily Backups:
· Our system saves each account’s work daily, which enables recovery
if you find you need to "go-back" to a previous time.

4] Sophisticated Permissions:
· Each account owner determines the specific records available for
public viewing through the use of individual passwords and a
default view.

5] Easy Data Entry:
· Your data can be edited directly on-line, using our proprietary,
user friendly interface, making all updates available in real-time
to all authorized users of your site.
· The ability to edit data is also controlled through individual
permission levels.

6] User Themes:
· Users of your site can select the look and feel from 16
different color schemes to suit their tastes.

7] Your own family email addresses:
· You can provide email addresses to users of your site as you
choose either by allocating mailboxes or setting up email
forwarding.

8] Easy Import/ Export:
· The system fully supports the industry standard GEDCOM format.

9] Cost Effective:
· Annual recurring price under $5 [US] per month
· Cost options:

Your spam is unwelcome here. Take it to the .marketplace group where
it belongs.

Great way to introduce yourself...

You know, that's how Ancestry.com got started. Everyone was anxinous to
send their family trees but once the site was attacting more attention,
Ancestry.com began to charge money for accessing the trees that people sent
for free. Ummm, sounds like a money making deal to me.

Ancestry has never charged for information submitted by
visitors. AWT (Ancestry World Tree) is user submissions of
family trees. It's free and always has been.

The misconception that Ancestry charges for info given them
for free is a very old myth but it continues to make the
rounds of the mailing lists. A quick visit to their website
will clear that up, as you can quickly see what IS free and
what is not.

Jim, I *think* you're thinking of Genealogy.com's Worldtree, not Ancestry.

This guy's not even doing it for free from the start. It's a commercial
adventure, plain and simple. He sent me an email which was well-written
but basically the usual "It may be spam, but it's on-topic spam" type
stuff; guy seems aware of soc.genealogy.marketplace but chooses to ignore
the fact that it's there for messages like his. Maybe he'll clarify
what his reasons are, who knows.

Dave you are correct that my service is not for free. However I was not
aware of soc.genealogy.marketplace until your reply to my message. As
soon as I saw your message I did immediately go looking for it. I have
since posted my anouncement to that group.

I did not want to give offense with my message, I felt that many of the
people in this group would possibly be interested in a service like
mine. It was my intent simply to inform about my existance. When you
pointed out that you did in fact object to my posting my message in this
newsgroup, I sent an email directly to you rather than compound my
honest mistake.

I do hope this clarifies why I posted in this group. I am more than
happy to answer any questions at all about my service and my background,
but perhaps it would be better if this was done as a reply to my message
in the soc.genealogy.marketplace group. This will likely remove the
feeling anyone might have that I am trying to perpetuate the discussion.

regards
Kevin
