research in the UK

Legg inn av russ » 16 jan 2005 16:04:57

I have just found out that a relative of mine spent quite a number of
years in London between 1914-1925. As I have no knowledge of records
available in the UK, can anyone point me in the right direction as to
what might be available. For instance are there city directories
available for that time period, or census records etc...

Oh my relatives name was Mendel Costrell, he was a chemist, and came
from what is now known as Belarus.

Thanks.

The most recent census to which there is public access is that of
1901. The census was done every 10 years and that for 1921 will be
available on the first working day after January 1 2022!! :))

For historical directories, try: http://www.historicaldirectories.org/

You might find it useful to sub to soc.genealogy.britain.

What sort of information were you looking for specifically??

Marriages?? Births??

there, that could point you in the correct direction.

It is the equivalant if Cindy's site in America.
