Is it possible to export only a portion of a family file, such as the line
of Ancestor X and only his direct decendants?
I've found a distant cousin doing research on a collateral line. His family
tree lacks some family members who are in my family file but he wouldn't be
interested in the rest of my sprawling family.
I'd like to share the relevant portions of the family file in the *.ftw
format so he can incorporate them into his tree. If I export a report in
PDF or whatnot that wouldn't be editable in FTM. I can't seem to locate an
option in preferences that would allow me to copy only a portion of the
family file.
Or is it not set up for this kind of option?

in Legacy you could select a person and their line down
Or actually TAG the records and then only those with a TAG 1 2 etc
Possible to global tag and then edit out those not wanted

Well I know you can do it with Legacy and I would assume FTM has similar

report or outline descendant fundtion), go to the [file] menu, then [export
file] then [individuals in tree].
If you need more info it's all explained in [Help] under [export gedcom
files]
Why would it not be? I think that all the decent progs are.

Get the portion you want to export on screen (I usually use th e genealogy
report or outline descendant fundtion), go to the [file] menu, then [export

Re: FTM Version 11: export portion of family file?
You can do this with PAF, I feel confident you can do it with FTM.
I just don't know how.

Re: FTM Version 11: export portion of family file?
As a general rule in FTM at least up to Version 7.5 and I'm quite certain later,
you would create a *report* that contains the individuals you wish to have in a
separate database. With that report on your screen, click on File and you will
see the option to Copy/Export Individuals in . . . (only the people in the
report) The output can be in a number of formats including .ftw and .ged.
