Need Help Finding Mary Riley and Parents Before 1842

Legg inn av William Barfieldsr » 02 jan 2005 18:10:03

Hi all,
I am trying to find my ggrandmother Mary Riley b.1824 (in possibly NC) and
her parents prior to 1840. I don't have any information on her parents. On
08 Dec.1842 in Early Co. GA, she married Jesse Barfield b.1823. Jesse and
Mary are listed in the 1850 census along with her brother George Riley
(separate families). In 1840 there is a James Riley listed for Early Co. GA.
but I don't know if this is her father. Could someone help with a lookup for
1830 Georgia and North Carolina to see if she is listed with her parents.
This seems to be my biggest brick wall.

William,

Unfortunately, the federal censuses of 1790-1840 only list the head of
household and the number of persons in each household in specified age
groups.

Oh, how I wish we had the name listings of the entire household! Such
brickwalls that would break down. (And while I am bemoaning, I'll add that
I wish we had the entire 1890 census. Tragedy!)
