Need a search tip for prefixed names

Legg inn av singhals » 22 des 2004 23:06:59

I'm ISO a family whose surname is van Grundy. I'm not finding them.
I've deleted the space and tried vangrundy and still not found 'em. I
tried just grundy and got beaucoups but still not my guys.

Any suggestions what to try next?

I wouldn't pass up trying "v Grundy" or "v. Grundy" if I were looking.

I'd look in the Netherlands, but I assume you know that. Did you
look at familysearch with exact spelling on, and off?

I did a search for Grundie on Google...

Resultaten 1 - 10 van circa 2.270 voor "grundie" (0,20 seconden)

I got a number of hits on ancestry.com for Vangrundy and also Von Grundy.
Do you have any names to go with the surname as well as dates and locations,
etc. I am willing to give it a try.

(G) Danke, but you're too far back; I'm beating bushes in the 1800s,
Ohio, USA neighborhood.

It's not pretty. HoH, James; wife Matilda, issue Amanda, Ann, Missouri,
James, and the rag-off-the-bush: Van VanGrundy. *SHOULD* be in Ohio on
the 1850 and '60 I've tried about 16 variants and simply don't see
them. It's possible they're using a middle name I don't have, I guess.

Do you have enough info on them to try a search using just a first name and
age or birthplace? Sometimes I've had luck going that route and then looking
through the results for something that may be a mangled version of my
original surname.

Nevermind, saw your reply to MikeS.

Here's 1850:
Name: Van crislip Van gandey
Age: 2
Estimated birth year: abt 1848
Birth place: Ohio
Gender: Male
Home in 1850
(City,County,State): Muhlenberg, Pickaway, Ohio
Page: 169
Roll: M432_720

I'll look around on 1860 and see what I can find.

Wow, there's some severe ugliness happening with this surname... it doesn't
seem like it would be the sort of name to cause so much trouble....

Birthplace: Ohio
Home in 1860: Sangamon, Piatt, Illinois
Gender: Male
