I've been hitting my head against this one for years.
She was born in Merlin, Switzerland about 1869. She died in St. Joseph,
Buchanan County, Missouri 24 Dec 1944.
I've only known her as Elizabeth (she's my great-grandmother) but one of
my aunt's [deceased] (her granddaughters) had written down in a
scrapbook I don't know what happened to that the first name was Felsita
(could be Felicite?). Her death record give her father as Louis GOSSAR
and her mother as Marie B. PIERRE. The information was given by her
eldest daughter.
I saw Merlin on a map years ago and never found it again. It was located
just where it was "supposed" to be, near where Switzerland, France, and
Italy meet, being closest to Italy. Because of my grandmother's (her
daughter) reaction to a remark my grandfather made (didn't talk to him
for a week) I'm wondering if there was a boundery dispute and she was
actually from Italy.
I don't even know where she and my great-grandfather met. He was Harry
Pulsiver (sometimes spelled Pulsifer, among other spellings) FAY, born 1
Apr 1848 in Dalton, Coos County, New Hampshire and died in St. Joseph,
Missouri 26 January 1918. The oldest child, Gertrude, was born in
Chicago, Illinois in 1886 and on at least one census my grandmother
mistakenly gave her father's birthplace as Chicago as well.
I couldn't find anything on Ellis Island.org but that may be because she
came here before Ellis Island was used as the clearing house for
immigrants.
Any leads or tips would be appreciated.

Nell,
The borders between Italy, Switzerland and France changed periodically.
Perhaps you are talking about the town of MERLINA (aka MERLIN)
in Lombardia, Como, Italy. This is near the current border of Italy
and Switzerland.
If the family was catholic, you might try the parish records for Merlina
Italy.
