Just my two bits for anyone that cares---
I subcribed to ancestry's one world tree and it is a waste of your time and
money. I promptly canceled my subscription and got my money back.
All it is, is a new way for ancestry to charge people to look at the same
EXACT information that is on rootsweb.com 's world connect project.
It is the SAME EXACT information...Only difference is when you type in a
name to look for an ancestor, you get one "correct" hit and it will have
little ? or ! by certain pieces of information to tell you that OTHER
gedcoms in the "one world tree" have different information for the same
people....
Well at rootsweb, you see all of the same hits, but they are in different
gedcoms....In one world tree, they just smoosh all the gedcoms that have one
person in them together, with say for instance 14 different birthdates for
the same person...So then you are REALLY CONFUSED.
Everyone take care when examining this...If you want to subscribe to it to
see for yourself, they offer a 7 day money back promise if you cancel..
I do most of my genealogy research from ancestry as a base, but it is really
sad to me when a company that owns all the other major genealogical
websites, PLUS rootsweb goes and tries to trick us researchers to pay for
the same information they swear on rootsweb that will always remain free.
Seems to me there should be some way to protect our information when we put
it on rootsweb, to avoid ancestry.com to be able to charge for others to see
it! Any lawyers out there with any ideas?

The databases at ancestry and worldconnect are *not* identical. They
are quite similar to one another and to those at Genealogy.com or at
familysearch.org because most folks who upload GEDCOMs tend to upload
them to every place that'll take them. Pity.

OneWorldTree (OWT) is a search engine that compares certain
data in your tree to that found in all of Ancestry.com's
trees and records such as the censuses and trees in
RootsWeb.com's WorldConnect Project.
It then compares the data and gives you the best possible
matches for individuals
Ancestry isn't charging for gedcoms. They are still free.
One World Tree is the search engine that search AWT and
many other databases. (like Census records, etc)
