Ancestors in Sligo, Ireland in the 1800's

Hi.

Is there anyone here who can help with some information regarding Sligo,
Ireland around the 1800's?

I am trying to get information on the Gilvey family who have lived in
Durham, England since around the 1850's; John Gilvey (my great-great-great
grandfather) is reported as being born in Sligo, Ireland in 1821 and I have
found only one reference to Gilvey in the Sligo tithe records at Rootsweb
(for 1825):

Parish : Kilmacteige Townland : Annagh Lot : 3 Name
Gilvey, Daniel

However, the 1824 tithe records list a Daniel Kilawee (but not Gilvey) and
the site also mentioned that Kilawee was an accepted alternative name for
Gilvey. In addition, Daniel was, and still is, is a popular forname for
Gilvey in England.

My questions are :

1. Could Daniel Kilawee also be Daniel Gilvey? As the surnames are listed
year on year, would this be an official name change or more likely a
corruption of some sort?

2. Is there any way to show that Daniel Kilawee/Gilvey and John Gilvey were
related?

3. I don't suppose there is any way to determine why the name change from
Kilawee to Gilvey would occur?

Thanks in advance for any help.
