Surname FLENAR

Hello, everyone---

I'm researching the surname FLENAR (my uncle's mother's family). I have found
no specific discussion boards or mailing lists for this surname.

My guess is that it's derived from French (FLENARD). Other spelling variants
may include FLENNAR, FLENNER, FLINNER.

I am a regular subscriber to most of the "products" of Ancestry.com, and I find
that US censes show clusters of Flenar families in Kosciusko and Fulton
Counties, Indiana (my uncle's line), some in Michigan, and also in Burlington
County, New Jersey.

I have been awfully lucky, turning up several Flenar contacts, even living
relatives, via USGenweb. It's a somewhat rare surname, but it seems to have
long roots in the U.S. (back to before 1800).

I can't seem to break past the westward migration period of the 1850s, when
many of these people came out from (presumably) Burlington Co., N.J.

I'm a fairly good sleuth, so I may eventually discover more about this line on
my own, but I just decided to post to a general genealogy newsgroup this
evening, for suggestions. I also know my post will be archived, for future
researchers.

Thanks in advance! In exchange for your ideas, I'll happily do lookups at
Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com (the latter has a very searchable database on the
1900 and 1910 censes). Or Scotland's People, the Scottish archives. I have
subscriptions in all.
