In the first place, we need to know the name of the individual you are seeking,
and where they lived, and when.

In the second place (and this is just my peculiar bias, I guess) I think it
stupid that in this day and age of the Internet, that there be ANY "definitive"
Family Tree "Volumes", or CDs, or whatnot.

They are all out-of-date at the time they are published!

I myself am a very active subscriber to World Family Trees at Ancestry.com.

Whenever I discover a "vein" of online material (through online archives), I am
updating my own family tree, sometimes 3-4 times a DAY.

The online World Family Trees database (and I suppose the IGI as well), are
being constantly updated (and corrected for previous errors, I might add) ,
HOURLY.

After all, with half-a-billion people being catalogued, these updates are
streaming in constantly, 24 hours a day.

What use are CDs, only good for the time when they were issued?

I thank heaven that genealogical science has now evolved from static,
"tombstone" histories, to the fluidity of the Internet, with its constant
updating, correcting, and discussion boards.

So, if you are researching a relative, I'm sure there any number of people who
will do lookups for you.

We need to know his (her) name, and where they lived and when. That is all.

If they were alive in the 1930 census, that would be the "latest" source of
archival online information (although USGenweb does "publish" some after-1930
birth, marriage and death information, submitted by volunteers: it depends on
the county).

If you are simply asking about one individual, we'll be happy to track him/her
down.

But if you would like to locate a family tree, or do some research yourself, I
highly recommend Ancestry.com.

There are several other genealogy websites you could subscribe to. There is
Genealogy.com, to which I am also subscribed (and which has the best community
discussion boards), but I think you'll find Ancestry.com is is the Mother of
all online databases.

You'll need to subscribe (for free) to access World Family Trees, at
Ancestry.com.

Later, if you'd like to access their other archives of Census data (this is a
VITAL resource for me) and interesting stuff, Ancestry.com will be happy to
sell you on their products. Some archives I have found useful; others not.

The Mormon church (Latter-Day Saints) is definitive in its resources. After
all, they were doing this genealogy stuff long before computers! And they are
free (you need to register online). Or you can go to your local LDS church
and request microfilms from just about anyworldwide database imaginable.

The only remark I have about the LDS is that they have now since realized that
Ancestry.com has the most dynamic family tree database, and they have
incorporated it into their own IGI.

I know this, because some of my entries to WFT have appeared on the IGI,
without my having submitted them.

In any case, let us know how you want to begin. I'm sure any of us here would
be happy to do lookups or provide some support.
