Hello everyone,
Regarding the comment about my website http://blacksheepancestors.com
on Dec 1:
"Why does everything lead back to ancestry.com? It's like the danged Gates
Microsoft nightmare for genealogists. Can we have some non-ancestry ads?"
_______________________________________________________________
My site has a few ancestry ads (they off-set my expenses
and keep my site FREE for visitors), but 99% of my links
lead to very useful free databases and information for
people searching their blacksheep ancestors.
The fact that someone asks why my site leads only
exclusively to ancestry links makes me pretty sure that
person did not bother to explore my site. We all want to
find our ancestors fast but if you just click on the first
thing you see, you might miss out on the good stuff.
Many websites contain ads. If you don't like them, you only
have to ignore them (don't click on them). The free stuff
is still there and still free. (Kind of like television and
commercials....)

If you can't afford it then find something else to do. My websites and those
of honest people have always been free without using ads.
First impressions are the most lasting. Don't blame the world for your own
poor design.
Referring to Ancestry, of course.
That's the way you designed it.
Advertisers here get reported to their ISP.

Wait, I thought he said he was doing this for the purpose of getting
information out. Seems like a contradiction here.
Web hosting is no longer a $200/month proposition. Anyone with a
business-grade DSL and a $200 PC can host their own site for zero extra
monthly cost. Claiming that costs are high for hosting a website shows
that the person doing so either doesn't know technology, or hopes his
visitors don't.
Well, Ancestry probably pays better for banner placement, y'see, so he's
got those on the top, I'd guses.
Er, can't I just go directly to ancestry then, rather than through this
guy's site?
Yup. He wants to post on the .marketplace group, where it's on-topic
and tolerated.
I only hope that this guy doesn't muddy the waters for the people who are
working on the _other_ blacksheep project, and doing a fine job of it
without resorting to, well, that.

at a website.
So what if he's got ads? He's got tons of other stuff there, so it's
not your business whehter he's got ads or dancing buffaloes or
whatever! So here's the website URL for those who want to find their
ancestors and not have you two tell us what's okay and what's not.

and to the guy who started this website- ignore these two, anyone with
half a brain can go to your site and see all the work you've done to
get those links and other stuff like the fbi posters. THANK YOU!
