Re: Obituary Lookup please
Hi Alan... I would like the obit for Dennis Doemer which was run in the
Oakland County Press (Michigan) between 11/23/2004 and 11/30/2003.
Unfortunately the paper itself doesn't carry obits past 7 days old. Is
there someplace else that these obits are kept?

I don't see that year's obituaries online.
But you might want to know that the newspaper serving Orange county
is called the Orange County Register but in 1940 its name was
the Santa Ana Register.
You might want to contact the Orange County California Genealogical Society
(OCCGS)
they may know where there are archives of that newspaper.

Re: Obituary Lookup please
Copies of old newspapers (typically on microfilm) are kept by major
libraries
and historical or genealogical societies. Since I have not done research
for Oakland county MI, I suggest you contact the geneology society there,
its website is http://www.metronet.lib.mi.us/ROCH/OCGS/
there might also be a town genealogy society, you didn't mention the town.
The other place would be the state archives.
By the way, when you determined the newspaper only kept 7 days worth
of obituaries, did you determine this via their website or did you speak to
a live person?
If you have not talked to a live person at the newspaper I would suggest
calling
them and asking them where old records are kept.

Re: Obituary Lookup please
I e-mailed the Oakland Press and they haven't responded. Their website
said that they do not archive obits passed 7 days. Oakland County is a
pretty far drive for me, so maybe next weekend I'll get up to the Oakland
Library and check it out. I didn't mention the town because I don't know
which town he lived in, that's one of the things I was hoping to find out
from the Obit.

I have had pretty good luck with Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness,
the volunteers there are wonderful for helping with obituaries, if that
is on their list of things that they are willing to do. You can get
