Question about Galway research

Legg inn av Rachel » 20 nov 2004 12:34:56

I found a will for a direct ancestor. He never listed an exact place of birth but in the will listed a brother living in Galway, Ireland. The will was written a few days before his death in 1912 so I'm fairly certain his brother was still alive in March of that year.

Can anyone help me with records that might be available for that time period? I know of the 1911 census but I'm really interested in the Old Age Pensioner's Claims that started in Ireland in 1911. I'm going to be visiting U.K. at the beginning of next year and want to make the most of the time I have. I'd like to have an idea of what I'm looking for before I go.

Thanks in advance.

Rachel:

Why don't you try posting this request to the soc.genealogy.ireland
newsgroup? They would probably have more suggestions.
