Re: Wtf happened to Godfrey ML ?
Perhaps it's because of the new format. You have to click on "Godfrey
Library Online Resources Portal" then at the next screen you have to enter
your card number as well as a password, which according to the front screen
is "godfrey". You'll be directed to a list of resources, the first of which
is the census and you just click on the globe icon next to the database you
want. I'm not wild about the new format as it's a lot more steps and my
computer will not "remember" my library card number forcing me to constantly
have to enter it each time I want to access the database.

used to take me to the login prompt, but now is a "Not Found". What I have been
using is a bookmark to:
http://www.iconn.org/cgi-bin/hquest/hquest_login.pl That one comes up with the
barcode prompt and an error message, but needs only the barcode and continues as
in the past.

Re: Wtf happened to Godfrey ML ?
Thanks for that link, Bob. It should save me some time. I have to admit
that in my opinion I really don't like their new format as well but I'm sure
they had their reasons. It's probably easier for some to see all their
databases on one page but I did like the old way better.

Let them know you don't like it. Probably won't change anything but at least
your opinion will be heard.

I had an access problem as well, filling out the ID/password blocks and
getting an "access denied" or similar message. In my case, an email to
Godfrey revealed that they had "lost" me as a subscriber during the format
switchover. They were very helpful via email and phone in restoring me to
full access. The one thing I do miss is the "advanced" option for searching
Census records. Is there something I should be doing or is this option gone
now?

You should probably be talking to them some more. One other person had also
reported that problem, but I've not had it nor have others. On a hunch, I logged
into a library that offers HQ, but that also gave me Advanced. I did that
suspecting that there might be differing classes of service.
In any case, contact Godfrey again! It's their problem to solve and, as a
paying customer, you aren't getting what you're paying for. What a fiasco!

The one thing I do miss is the "advanced" option for searching
When I go to the census records, there are three tabs - Basic Search, Advanced
Search, and Find by Page Number. The Basic Search Tab loads first, and it does
take a moment (brief, on cable connection) for the other two to load, BUT there
are there.
Do you use a high speed connection? Are you waiting long enough for the other
tabs to load?

Thanks for the suggestions. I do run on a cable connection. My Norton
SystemWorks does block popups-- I'll have to read the book to see how to
adjust the filter. I had such success with the email/phonecalls, I may try
that first and put the onus on them. Also, when I use the newspaper search
and get 50 hits, if I advance through the pages and click on hit number 42,
I am sent back to page one when I back up rather than to the page that
contained hit 42. Another quirk that maybe Godfrey can correct?
