I'm looking for a John Papst in St. Paul Minnesota. Born around 1871.

Hallo David

For a person who was ~9 yrs old in 1880, the trick there is to use the
LDS 1880 census transcription at:
<http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp>

as it is an ALL person index instead of just Head of Household. Load that
page and select the US 1880 census. I chose the state of Minnesota, but
St Paul is in Ramsey County if you want to use that also. There aren't
that many Pabst or Papst to make that necessary.

Thanks Rob for your reply, but on the link you mentioned there is only the
1880 census available. Whcih is of course of no use in my case, cos the John
Papst I'm looking for was born in 1871. And he was not in MN before
1910...do u have any oder ideas where to look for the data?

I'm looking for a John Papst in St. Paul Minnesota. Born around 1871.
There is a John C. Papst, 50 b. 1869 Illinois and his family, wife Jenny, 38

b. IL, Daughter Mary 9 b. MN and Son Joseph 6 b . MN living in Midway, MN.
Do you think this is who you are looking for?

I wish you had said that.

I had checked the 1920 census for the entire country and found no likely candidate. What are
your reasons for thinking that he came to the US & when did he come? What was his status when he
came: single, married, etc?
