John Wolfgang Wuerges and Josephine A Doemer

Hi all.

In my attempts to get accurate, or as accurate as possible, information for
my genealogical research, I have visited the graves of many of my family
members and looked at their headstones. I was a bit surprised to find this
couple, John Wolfgang Wuerges and Josephine A Doemer in a double plot that
had no gravestone at all. My brother and I want to rectify this situation,
but we don't know their birth and death dates except that Josephine was born
sometime in 1964. She was the youngest child of Peter Anton Doemer and
Anna Elisabeth Rueenaufer. Their marriage would have probably taken place
in Wayne County, Michigan, and Josephine was born in Wayne County. If we
can't find their birth and death dates, I suppose we'll put up a stone with
their names on it. Can anyone help?

Correction. Josephine was born sometime in 1864.

I looked at the 1900 census for Josephine and children. It shows she was
born March 1864. John was dead by then. Michigan has good birth and death
records so you may have to order copies of their death certificates. I don't
think the birth records go back far enough to help.

I'm sending the 1900-1930 census images for Josephine. There is a lot of
info there that might lead to other documents.

In the 1894 Detroit city directory Josephine is listed as the widow of John
Wuerges, so he died before that was printed. It says it's for the year
starting August 1, 1894.

Thanks. Michigan does have good birth records back to about 1870, before
that the records are hit or miss. So I'll shoot for their marriage record
for the birth dates. Once I have those, then I can order their death certs.
Thanks for the information.

Thanks Doug. The 1900 Census that Tara sent me today shows Josephine and
some kids, the 1910 Census shows her with more kids, but no husband, still
named Wuerges. I wonder what that is all about?

The only child that is different on 1910 is John J, who would have been 13
in 1900. I can't find him in the index, so there's no telling where he was
living. Josephine has no new kids though. In both censuses she's listed as
having 5 kids, 5 living.

Probably a child of siblings who died. Sometimes for children the last name
wasn't identified in this situation,

take care

Yeah, I figured out what I was seeing yesterday, obviously the child listed
as Kate in 1900 must have been Catherine in 1910.
