Norwegian Army Band

Legg inn av dn24700 » 23 mai 2010 15:53:52

My great-great grandfather, Petter Eduard Paulsen, was a member of the Kings Guard. I have attached a photograph of him in his uniform. He was born in 1842 and served in the military for many years. I am trying to determine what the pins on his collar represent and what rank he may have held. He was a horn-blower in the band.

Mange takk.
(I do not speak Norwegian.)

P.S. And tusen takk to everyone who helped me with the genealogy of Petter and his family.

hello :)

The 2 signs on his collar are the signs for military musicians, and they haven`t changed much since those times. You find the modern ones here in gold and silver, down on the page on the right side (Militærmusikere):

Hello!

If you at the link above goes to: Del 8, you will find the rules for the Kings Guard
and pictures of the different forms of uniforms etc. I don't think he had a high rank
on your picture, maybe a sergeant. The hat he is wearing is called a kepi, go to ;Del 6 and then to Luer, and you will get an idea.
Good luck :D
