Isak Tornak, Tornakka, Stalnacke

Legg inn av gj08299 » 25 jul 2011 09:46:31

I was wondering if someone might have more information on a Isak Tornak that I found in the 1865 and 1875 Norwegian Census. I am pretty sure that he came from Sweden somewhere around 1860-1865. I believe his real name to be Isak Sakariasson Stalnacke. He had 3 children that I know of. I have already searched for the childrens birth records in the Tana parish records and found them. After looking on the 1910 census I notice that only his son Hans Tornak is listed. Possibly the other 2 married because they are both female (Margarethe Gustava Isaksdotter Tornak, and Maria Fredrikka Isaksdotter Tornak). I have searched the Tana records for Isak's death record but cannot find it yet. Does anybody know of this name or this family? I appreciate any help. Thanks so much

Thank you Marit, I appreciate the help. Can you possibly help me with this record i found with his name on it. I am trying to find out when he came over to Norway but I have looked at all the Tana moving records and this is the only one I can find with his name. It shows his name on the second column. What does the second column mean?

This record is the moving of widow Inger Mortensdatter from Alta (Alten ) to Tana october 1864.
Second column is " purpose for moving " ,- and it says : "tjener for Isak Tornak" = servant for Isak Tornak.
So this is a woman coming to work for Isak. :)

Since his wedding was January 22. 1858
his arrival must have been earlier than that.

The 1865-census states that Isak came to Norway about 10 years ago (i.e. abt 1855): Link

The marriage record in the norwegian churchbooks says that Isak's marriage took place in Tutola (22 Jan 1858). Here it is in the finnish churchbooks (they've probably left for Norway just after the wedding): Link

Here is Isak with his parents in Turtola (rippikirja 1827-1833): Link

His mother died in 1833: Link

His father died in 1846: Link

Be aware that Isak's father's name was Zacharias Ericsson Ståhlnacke, not Zacharias Zachariasson Ståhlnacke (as it is written in Isak's norwegian wedding record).

Isak Zakrisson Stålnacke had an aunt, Anna Ersdotter Stålnacke b. 22.04.1781
(She was the sister of his father Zackris Eriksson Stålnacke). One of her sons, Olof,
b. 24.09.1817, also went to Norway. I do not know when he departed, but he married in Kåfjord in Alta on 10/09/1842.

Olof and Isak were cousins, so perhaps they have gone to Norway together?

My family goes back to Anna Stålnacke, so I have information on her descendants if it is of interest to anyone

Another interesting thing to notice, is that Johan Baski (Barski/Barsk), living at the same place as Isak Tornak in 1865, seems to be a cousin of Isak. Isak's mother, Greta Johansdr Barsk and Johan's father, Henrik Wilhelm Johansson Barsk, were siblings. Their parents were Johan Persson Kyrö-Barsk (b. 1760 in Pello, d. 18 Dec 1833) and Sofia Persdotter (1768-1851).

Here are all siblings:
1. Per *1790
2. Margareta *1792 (Isak Tornak's mother Greta)
3. Johan 1794-1825
4. Sofia 1797-1826
5. Salomon 1798-1827
6. Eva *1804
7. Isak *1805
8. Helena *1810
9. Henrik Vilhelm *1810 (Johan Baski's father)
