Peder Krabbe
I have a question regarding the Landed Property Tax Register of 1647. My ancestor, Peder Krabbe, is listed in Vik tinglag, Nordmore, More og Romsdal. On page 322 it lists him as : Her Peder Krabbe aff Weine flombsaugh. Is Weine a farm? What is flombsaugh? I cannot find it in any translation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Re: Peder Krabbe
"Weine" has obviously nothing to do with the German word "Wein" for wine.

I think it is the same as "saw mill" (but I'm not sure, and I don't have any dictionary!) Weine might be a farm name - the name of the farm which owned the mill, or had the right to use it. I'm not familiar with the farm names in this district.

Annettes innlegg er senere blitt endret slik at mitt etterfølgende blir meningsløst. Opprinnelig hadde hun skrevet at Weine er det samme som det tyske ord for vin (i flertall).
The quoted entry has been changed after my following entry was posted, and makes my entry meaningless. At first Annette had written that "Weine" would be the same as the German word for English "Wine", which is nonsens in this context.

The correct name today is Vinje and was earlier a part of Vik Tinglag in Nordmøre. Today Vinje is a part of Hemne municipality in Sør Trøndelag county.
Flombsaugh (flomsag in modern Norwegian language) means a sawmill used in the season when it was enough water in the river to run the sawmill.
