Hello,
My name is Rita, and I live in Antwerp, Belgium
One of my ancestors came from Norway. I have no idea exactly when or why he came to live in Belgium.
I would very much like to know more about him.

His name was :
Joannes Adam Schlott. He was born in Grossimbach, Volda, Norway on 27th may 1772.
He died in Herenthout, Belgium on 21th october 1836.
He was married to Anna Catharina Sameys and had 5 children.
He was a very respected member of the community : he worked as a village policemen.

Could you please help me to find more about him( his parents, siblings, and his ancestors ?

Thank you !

Hello Rita, welcome to "Slektsforum".

The information seems a bit odd - since "(Gross)Imbach" certainly is no Norwegian name.
It could be a translation of a farm name. In German, "Bach" is a creek, small river - and "bekk" is the Norwegian form. "Gross-" is "stor-".
Unfortunately, there is no suitable farm name in Volda.

The name "Schlott" sounds German or Dutch - but may also be an adaption.

The church registry for Volda 1772 does not reveal any baby Johannes baptized in May-June.

On the other hand. Imbach is/was a village ("Dorf") in Niederösterreich, Austria.
Today part of gemeinde Senftenberg.

Nevertheless, it is not "Gross".

How/where did you get the information about "born in Grossimbach, Volda, Norway on 27th may 1772."

Hei Ivar!
