Iver Pedersen
Hello,
Do you speak English. I am looking for my husbands great great grandfather Iver Pedersen. We know that they also used the name Brevik or Bredvik, which we believe to be the farm name. All we know about him is that he was born in 1852 in Norway. Could you help?
Thank you Linda Peterson

Iver Pedersen f. Brevik born 1852
Does anyone speak English? I am looking for Iver Pedersen f. Brevik, (Bredvik) born in 1852. I do not know his parents or siblings. I know he married an Ingeborg Andersdatter from f. Herje in More Og Romsdal. I know they lived in Wisconsin, USA for a period of time and then migrated to Canada. I do not know if they married in Norway or in the US. Does anyone have any information. I am contacting you because of the farm name Brevik. Does the farm name stay with family or does it stay with the land. I do not understand these things. Please help. Thank you.

Re: Iver Pedersen f. Brevik born 1852
In mid 19th century this was Veøy parish, but today the Brevik farm you are searching for, is probably in Molde municipality. Therefore I have moved this, and created a new thread.
A possible candidate for Iver Pedersen in the 1865-census: at Hundnes farm.
His wife, Ingeborg Andersdatter, came from the same parish, but today all the Herje-farms belongs to Rauma municipality. Here in the 1865-census.
I have found a possible candidate in the church records for Veøy. Iver Pedersen born in 1852. There was none with that name born in 1853.
No. 28; born June 13th and baptized July 11th. Source information: Møre og Romsdal county, Veøy, Parish register (official) nr. 547A05 (1846-1877), Birth and baptism records 1852, page 21. But there his parents lived at Mittet indre. So I am not sure I have found the correct man.
There are several Brevikfarms in this region, Romsdal, and he could of course be from one of them. But this Iver Pedersen that I found in 1865 was conveniently close to Herje.
But I found him in the emigrant lists from Kristiansund.
Iver Pedersen Brevig no. 1205; 1884 June 25. Not married at the time according to the official emigrant lists.
I didn't find Ingeborg Andersdatter in the lists from Kristiansund. And not from Ålesund either. A list of emigrant lists from Møre og Romsdal. No lists prior to 1882 exists today for Kristiansund and prior to 1878 from Ålesund.
But maybe someone else here on this forum with a better knowledge of the Romsdal region (and the Brevikfarms) could find Iver Pedersen? I'm not sure I have found the correct one.

It stays with the land. After appr. 1900-1925 it stays with the family. Generally speaking.Does the farm name stay with family or does it stay with the land.

Re: Iver Pedersen f. Brevik born 1852
The immigration list could possible by the Iver Pedersen that I am looking for. We thought, but had no proof, that he and Ingeborg married in Wisconsin. However, he did live in Council Bluff, Iowa first. He and Ingeborge had one boy, Anders born 24 July 1892 in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. By the age that he was when he had his first child - 40 years old - he could have been a single man when he immigrated to the USA. Now I can look on this end, and try to find the ships records.
They then migrated to Canada. We have been told that Anders was approx 13 years old, but I have no proof of this either. Anders - now known as Andrew Leonard Peterson, married Anna Bertha Schmidt, and they lived on the family farm in Floral, Saskatchewan Canada. They had 5 boys and 3 girls. One of these boys was Elmer who married a Lenora Waite, and they lived in Big River, Saskatchewan Canada and had 3 children, the oldest boy Leonard Peterson, is my husband.
Thank you once again for your help.
Also, may I compliment the Norweigan people for their great effort in making so many records available on line. Your country is one of the few that has done so much in helping people track their families.
Thank you,
Linda Peterson

Thank you, sorry for jumping back and forth. You all speak/write very good English. I also found this record with Karen Iversdatter as his mother and was wondering if this was his family. Could someone please translate the baptismal page. I'm sorry I do not speak or read Norweigan, and my Norweigan/English dictionary doesn't have most words???
I appreciate you people.

Re: Iver Pedersen f. Brevik born 1852
In book number 5 about farms and people in Nesset there are written om page 209 about the Bervik farm: “Iver Pedersen b. 4 of April 1852. He married in 1879 with Mildri Pedersdatter Sira b. 1854. They got a son named Peter Mikael b. 27 of July 1880. Mildri died after the birth, 30 of August. Peter Mikael was raised on the farm where his grandmother Karen (Ivers mother) was born.
Iver went to USA 25 of June 1884. Married again in USA with a women wich namen proberly was Ane. They got one son.” So it´s the right family in cencus 1865.
Peter Mikael Iversen Brevik was confirmated in 1895 in Sira church in Nesset.
Here is Peter in 1900 living with his grandmother at the Brevik farm. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/We ... k=219#ovre

Re: Iver Pedersen
Thank you so much for all this information. The family history was that there was a half brother to Anders still living in Norway, but we didn't know if it was Ingeborg's or Iver's. We personally thought it would be Iver's just because mom's don't normally leave their babies behind. We did not know the rest of the story, so this fills in a lot. I feel like I just won a million dollars - this is so exciting. Thank you.
