My husband's grandmother was born in Flom Township of Norman County in Minnesota. Her parents were not married. It states in the Church records and the Township records that her father was Erick Stolen/Stulen. I have searched for years on this. Awhile ago I found a death certificate for an Erick Stolen in St. Paul, Ramsey County of Minnesota. He died in 1926 when he fell down a flight of steps and broke his neck. The person who gave the information for the death certificate was a cousin named Ole Harpidahl. From this information, I feel he is the Erick Andersen Stølen f.9/3/1871 i Balestrand. He is buried in Union Cemetery in Ramsey County.
I find him leaving Norway the first time here:
Emigrantar over Bergen frå Balestrand kommune.
Year No. Date Given name Middlename Last name Age Year of birth Sex Birth place Domicile Marital status Ticket Occupation Line
435 1890 317 9/4 Erik Andersen Stølen 19 1871 m Balestrand Balestrand ug Grdmdssøn
The second time I find him coming back to Norway and visiting and leaving again here:
Emigrantar over Bergen frå Balestrand kommune.
Year No. Date Given name Middlename Last name Age Year of birth Sex Birth place Domicile Marital status Occupation Remarks
616 1894 188 23/3 Erik Andersen Stølen 23 1871 m Balestrand Minnesota ug Farmarbeider Stjernelinien
Would there be any information in the Kommune about this Erick Andersen Stølen and what happened to him? Or is there any family left in the area that may know? I have found this online:

Thank you for any ideas or information. I appreciate all the help I can get.

And Hans Larsen Horpedal and Synneva Olsdatter Horpedal were sponsors (faddere) at the baptism of Erik.
These farms are in Fjærland, Balestrand. Fjærland was quite isolated, you could only get there by boat from Balestrand. But in 1986 the Fjærland tunnell was opened.

Thank you Tove and Oddgeir. I had already found the Christening information about Erik. I am looking for information whether any family members in Norway knew or had hear rumors of what had happened to Erick Stølen. I am trying to prove this is the same person who is the father of my husband's grandmother in 1898.

Takk. I notice that children seem to die. Wonder if there is a problem in the family? Ivar who had the farm had two children die young. I am in contact with someone who is from the area now and hopefully will get answers to some of my questions.
