Hyllestad Evindvig ?? other name?

Legg inn av dn09189 » 31. januar 2008 kl. 3.41

I am trying to look up baptisms and marriages for the Hans Henrikkte Holck family as found in the Evindvig census of 1801. His son, Knud Kraft is said to be born in Hyllestad in the 1865 census but he is part of the Evindvig census in 1801
I have tried to look for scanned parish records for these two places (Hyllestad and Evindvig) but I can't find records that go back into the 1700's.
Any assistance in directing me to the right parish would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
David Vinge

Your problems are mostly due to changes in names and boundaries for parishes and local governmental units. Hyllestad did not exist in 1801. The south-easteren part - which you are interested in - was part of Eivindvik while the north-western part belonged to Askevoll. Before 1865 Hyllestad was estableshed and Eivindvik was further split into Solund and Lavik. You will probably find most of the church records you want under Gulen.

May be this map will help you - lower left hand corner http://digitalarkivet.no/norkart/somo.htm
